Blue Ridge Parkway Curve Poster Nevada who in 1923Description 14" x 22" poster Interpretive Copy The idea for the Blue Ridge Parkway came in 1933 when U. S. Senator Harry Byrd of Virginia suggested to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt that a park to park road should connect Shenandoah to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The project was approved and work commenced. Many obstacles slowed construction. Finally in 1987, the last stretch was finished, completing the 469 mile route.
